Julia Mintzer, Mezzo Soprano

Mezzo-soprano Julia Mintzer is quickly finding a niche for herself in contemporary and twentieth century works while continuing to establish herself in the standard repertoire. She is currently rehearsing the role of Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti, her debut with the Boston University Opera Institute, and recently created the role of Marianne de Cosmelly in Verse of Fortune, a new work by Noa Ain and Christian Holder. Her other recent operatic appearances include the title roles of Susan B. Anthony in The Mother of Us All with the Juilliard Opera Workshop and Elle in La Voix Humaine at the Chautauqua Institution. This summer held an engagement with Crested Butte Music Festival, where she sang Meg Page in Falstaff. She spent last summer with the Wolf Trap Opera Company as a Studio Artist, where she performed the role of Sesto in scenes from La Clemenza di Tito. She will be singing her first Carmen in La Tragédie de Carmen at Hot Springs Music Festival next June.

Ms. Mintzer has also appeared in a greatly diverse concert repertoire, ranging from Bach's Weinachtsoratorium with the Queens College Choral society to excerpts from Shostakovich's Fourteenth Symphony in Alice Tully Hall. Her recent recital, Walpurgisnacht, an exploration of song literature about witches and mythical female power was toured around the east coast under the auspices of New Triad for Collaborative Arts, who also presented her at Yamaha Hall in Romance Wafts East, a program about European exoticism. She will next be presented in recital by the Austrian American Society in November of 2009, as the first place winner of their Mozarteum Scholarship Competition.
