The Music Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for artistic leadership of the orchestra and its image and role in the community. Through collaboration and mutual respect, the Music Director, the Executive Director, the Board, and the Musicians will work together to heighten the KSCC’s visibility in the community, establish new partnerships and develop new audiences.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional musicianship and conducting skills; significant conducting experience, including work with professional musicians; knowledge of a broad range of repertoire; and evidence of successful collaboration with all orchestral constituencies (Board of Directors, Executive Staff, Musicians and Educators). Finalists will be invited to conduct a symphonic series concert during the 2013-2014 season, from which the successful candidate will be chosen.
Now in its 72nd season, the Kennett Symphony of Chester County (PA) is a fully professional orchestra that performs six concerts annually. The mission of the KSCC is to present a wide range of symphonic music at an affordable price to entertain and enrich the lives of our audience. Concerts are performed at venues throughout Chester County including Longwood Gardens Open Air Theatre, Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre at West Chester University, the International Cultural Center at Lincoln University and Kennett High School.
Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Application must include: letter of interest from the candidate, resume, sample programs conducted by the candidate, and names and phone numbers of at least five professional references to include musicians, arts administrators and governing board members. DVD recording of a performance within the past two years may be submitted with application materials. DVDs and other application materials will not be returned. No phone calls, please.
