Want to join a fun, dynamic group of people dedicated to supporting the programs of the Kennett Symphony? The Kennett Symphony League provides support for the unique activities below. Pick and choose activities that fit with your schedule and interests!
The League "stages" concerts, meaning that League members coordinate every aspect of the musicians' and concert goers' experiences before, during and after a performance.
Rehearsals. When musicians take breaks during rehearsals, League volunteers provide them with snacks and drinks. Rehearsals are held on weeknights and Saturday afternoons just prior to performances. It's a chance to get to know Maestra Green and the musicians as well as listening to rehearsal! (And, you get a complementary ticket to the concert.)
Greeters. The League organizes greeters, usually from the Kennett Symphony Board, for concert goers at each performance.
Ushers. The League coordinates volunteer ushers for each performance. Ushers pass out programs and seat patrons. And you get to see the performance for free!
Receptions. Following some performances, the League holds a reception at which musicians and concert goers can mingle.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a child experience live music for the first time. The League reaches out to area children with a free family concert each March.
Before the concert, League volunteers contact area schools, libraries, and churches via phone, e-mail, and brochure to publicize the performance.
Volunteers usher, pass out programs and collect conations before the performance.
The popular Instrument Petting Zoo takes place immediately after the performance. Families can come onstage to meet the musicians, try out their instruments and stand on stage. League volunteers manage the various stations.
For 26 years, the League has sponsored an annual luncheon and fashion show. This event is one of the Kennett Symphonys largest annual fundraisers.
Help plan the various aspects of silent and live auctions including securing donated items from area businesses.
Prepare raffle baskets based around various themes.
Setup silent auction tables the day before the event.
And on the day of the event, sell raffle tickets, collect monies at the end of the silent auction and greet people at the door.
Volunteers support the Symphony in many other ways:
They help with office work, such as newsletter mailings and note writing.
They distribute posters and post cards to promote upcoming concerts.
They stage a "Second Fiddle Sale" each year to raise money for the Symphony.
They dress the window of the Symphony's storefront office in Kennett Square.
Members of the League also meet regularly for fun, informal lunches and coffees.
Please contact the Kennett Symphony office at 610-444-6363 or info@kennettsymphony.org for more information on how you can volunteer!
